This show celebrates our roots individually or as a community.  Artists’ work represent a visit to the attic, evoke memories of family or history, depict an antique object or structure or tells the story of an historical event. Artists can drop off their submissions to this show on May 28 and May 29, from 4-6PM. It is $15 per submission - and artists can register on line here. In addition, there is an opening reception on Friday, June 2, from 5-7PM - all invited to enjoy!

Russ Peterson will be featured in this show.

Russ Peterson's Monhegan Island Art is also on view at Sentry Hill this month.

About 15 years ago, Russ Peterson went to Monhegan Island to support his nephew's efforts to take a painting class with Caleb Stone. His nephew was a little skeptical about going to Monhegan since he didn't know anyone there. So his willingness to join in the same class was just what he needed. While Russ was already familiar with Caleb and Monhegan, he had not painted since he was a sophomore in High School.

Gifts from the Sea: Craft A ShellScape

Summer is just about here and this workshop will help usher in those lazy, crazy days.  Intricate and colorful seashells are beautiful treasures found in the sea, offering inspiration for beautiful artistic creations. Artist/instructor Joyce Amend will show you how to artistically craft a beautiful shellscape within a picture frame – one that you’ll be proud to exhibit or gift.  All seashells and materials needed to make your shellscape will be provided. However, feel free to bring any special seashells you may have if you wish to include them in your design.  Class is suitable for both children and adults.  Held on Friday, June  9, 10:30-12:00. Cost is $15 for members, $18 for Stageneck Guests, and $25 for general public. Register at 363-4049, or email info@yorkartassociation.com, or online at www.yorkartassociation.com.

Joyce Amend is a local artist and state-certified art educator.  She is known for her intricate Sailors’ Valentine art that has been exhibited in galleries and shows in the seacoast area. She is also a Certified Zentangle Teacher conducting workshops throughout the area.
