Thursday, March 7th, 10-4pm: Portraiture
Friday, March 8th , 10-4pm: Figure Painting
Cost: YAA Members - $200, Non-Members - $240 for 2 day workshop, includes model fee.
Brett X. Gamache has taught painting and drawing at the college level for over seven years. He holds an MFA in painting from the University of New Hampshire. In 2007, he was awarded a Fulbright Grant to Italy for painting, he has received numerous artist residencies including the Vermont Studio Center and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Each day will begin with a brief lecture and demostration by the instructor. Participants will then have an opportunity to work from the live model (one-on-one instruction will be provided by the instructor at this time).
An early afternoon lunch break will be taken between poses from 12:30-1pm. BYOL - Bring your own lunch.
Students must provide their own materials:
Paint tubes: Titanium White, Naples Yellow, Cadmium Lemon, Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson, Magenta, Cerulean Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Viridian Green
Oil Paint brushes: a variety of sizes (for ex. #4, 6, 8) I prefer 2 Rounds, 2 Flats, 2 Filberts
Palette knife: I suggest a diamond shape or tear drop shape knife approx. 2 inches long
2 small containers: 1 for odorless turpentine (to thin paint and clean brushes) and 1 for medium (suggested mix of 1 part turpentine and 1 part linseed oil)
Paint rags or paper towels and a plastic bags to discard them in
Portable easel: small french easel or a durable light weight metal/wooden easel or table top easel
Palette: wooden, plastic, disposable or glass palette (no smaller than 10" x 12")
Canvas: your choice, either stretched canvas or panel, (2 each day) no smaller than 10" x 12" (Total of 4 for the workshop)
2 Vine charcoal sticks for initial drawing
Other suggestions: hat with a visor, small handheld mirror, small sketchbook and drawing pencil, painting box or bag to carry all your supplies, snacks or a packed lunch
