Silk Master Artist Workshop
Instructor: Susan Wierzba
Dates: Two Workshops - Monday, November 17 and Monday November 24, both 9 am to 12 noon.
Cost: $50 each workshop ($90 if you take both) payable to York Art Association
$20 per workshop for materials (payable to Sue at workshop)
These color-rich classes will provide students with the basic knowledge of silk painting. Learn about Jacquard artist-grade dyes, types of resists, the use of texture, how to select the right brushes, and methods for stretching silk.
This small, informal class will include hands-on instruction. Students will make two scarves each week. All Silk Scarves will be used. Methods will include:
Week 1: Free Form– Loose, colorful and easy, and Shibori - Japanese pole wrapping
Week 2: Soy wax resist, - A little more control, and a Compression Resist method.
At the end of the classes the instructor will take the scarves home to steam, wash,and iron them to have ready for students to pick-up the following week.

Sue Wierzba is an experienced watercolor painter. She is inspired by flowers andlandscapes. Her passion for these subjects even brought her to Giverny, France topaint in Monet's garden. Her big bold flowers are inspired by Georgia O’Keefe’s loveof close-up and natural images. As a watercolor painter she found the transition to silk painting easy. Wierzba enjoys the variety of texture, and vibrant colors achieved by working in silk.
