Drawing and other forms of artistic expression have always been a part of Donna Asquith’s life. However, her love of art was sidelined while she taught high-school English in Massachusetts for thirty-one years, and while she and her husband raised their two sons. Finally, Donna moved on from teaching and returned her attentions to art; now she had the precious time for a loved but put-aside occupation. She began a new career and took up watercolor painting in 2006.
Since 2008 when she sold her first watercolor, her dedication to painting has been rewarded. Her paintings have been in numerous international, national, and regional juried shows around the country. Her works hang on the walls of scores of art lovers who have bought her paintings. Donna’s other mediums include gouache and pastels, and in 2014 Donna began painting in acrylics; her watercolor experience is evident in her acrylic works. She enjoyed and benefited from her participation in a figure-drawing group of local artists that meet in York, Maine. Portraiture is a specialty. Galleries where her works have sold include Art on Centre, Fernandina, Florida; York Village Gallery in York, Maine; Barn Gallery, Ogunquit, Maine; Green Heron Gallery, Ogunquit, Maine; York Art Association, York, Maine. Thrilled by renewed creative expression and excited by these successes, she says, “This is what I was supposed to do next!”
